The Presbytery of Des Moines voted unanimously on Saturday, June 3, to organize and constitute a new church in Des Moines, the First Arabic Presbyterian Church.  The church – whose members are primarily Sudanese immigrants and refugees – is a unique congregation, joined together by the common language of Arabic.* Under the Arabic umbrella, the church is able to bring together people from many different Sudanese tribes, as well as those from other Arabic-speaking countries such as Egypt, Syria and Iraq.

The South Central Partnership of the Presbytery spent a fun evening on Thursday, April 27 being served dinner by the folks at First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset and then touring the John Wayne Birthplace Museum.  There were folks representing Carlisle, Scotch Ridge; Hartford, Community United; Indianola, Trinity United; LeRoy, First; Centerville, First and Lucas, First Presbyterian Churches. Interim General Presbyter Rev. Jim & Jan Koopman also joined in the fun.

 

On Sunday, April 23, 2017, the Rev. Rachelle McCalla was installed as pastor at First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic, Iowa.  Pictured is Rev. McCalla and Rev. David Kincaide, moderator of the Presbytery.

The 509th Stated Meeting of the Presbytery of Des Moines will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the United Christian-Presbyterian Church, 1500 Industrial Ave., Bedford, Iowa. The meeting will be hosted by the Southwest Regional Partnership of the Presbytery. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the meeting beginning at 9:30 a.m.
